Super Bowl XLVII produced the third highest audience in U.S. television history as it averaged 108.4 million viewers.
The CBS telecast trailed the 2012 Super Bowl with 111.3 million viewers and the 1996 Super Bowl which had 111 million.
New Orleans reportedly was second to Baltimore in the ratings followed by Washington, D.C, Norfolk, Dayton and Columbus, Ohio, Indianapolis, Richmond, Milwaukee and Jacksonville.
The Neilsen ratings service reports that 71% of all sets in the country were tuned to the game Sunday night. The figure rose to 75% in the final half-hour of the contest.
Beyonce's halftime show averaged 71% of TV households, down from 72% for Madonna's show in 2012.
The biggest audience for any other broadcast program Sunday night was 2.6 million for a rerun of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” on ABC.
