Joe Vitt has responded to an allegation by ex-Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams that Vitt stopped him from shutting down the team's bounty system when the NFL began looking into it.

In a portion of a transcript of a hearing conducted by Paul Tagliabue, Williams said that Vitt responded to a suggestion that a pay-for-pain set up be abandoned with an obscenity-laced speech about how Roger Goodell "wasn't going to tell us to stop doing what won us the Super Bowl."

On Thursday, Vitt said he was never asked when he testified whether or not he wanted to keep the bounty program going.

"I was never asked that question.  I was told that accusation was made, and I volunteered at the time in front of Commissioner Tagliabue to take a lie detector test that afternoon to deny that allegation."

Vitt appears to be eager to testify in federal court if Judge Ginger Berrigan allows Jonathan Vilma's defamation lawsuit against Roger Goodell to proceed to trial.

"Now what's going to happen now is all participants of all these accusations are going to a federal judge and going to go to a judge, and from top to bottom, she's going top hear testimony.  And the penalty for perjury with her is going to be jail time."
